There are issues with 2e Clarity, it's possible to have a successful Clarity attack that doesn't do any actual Clarity damage, and rolling two different diecpools is clunky, but the issues the author brought up don't really make sense. Also, 2e Clarity doesn't enfold Virtue and Vice, unless you mean the small modifier for acting in accordance with their Needle or Thread, this shifts none of the 'heavy lifting' both in that it's not a lift at all, and 1e's Clarity system was entirely within the player's court, in 2e the ST can set up threats to attack Clarity (shifting the horror burden from the player to the ST, the exact opposite of your complaint). 2e Clarity's biggest weakness is that it lacks teeth at lower Wyrd. Other than The Chart tm (which is not sufficient to the crafting of an oath unless you already have most of the effects memorized), the biggest difference between 1e and 2e is that 2e allows promises made in haste to be enforced and makes the benefit a Changeling receives from a promise with a Mortal something other than the direct benefit provided by the Mortal.ДЎe Clarity, like all 1e 'Morality' traits, was just Victorian morality and bad-psych with a few extra Changeling-esque things stapled on. 1e didn't capture this at all, instead it presented a system that was more akin to both/all sides of the bargain having knowledgeable, high paid lawyers spending years hashing out every possible detail and loophole 2e's system is much simpler and far more on flavor: if someone makes a promise, even or especially an ill advised one, then a creature of faerie can attempt to bind that person to that promise.ДЄlso, the author says that 1e's system was a simple chart, but it's actually about ten pages of wordy rules text explaining everything that gets put in that chart, in 2e it's a bit under seven pages. How often do you read fairy tales where the promises and punishments are in any way balanced? One of the key components to stories involving the fae is disproportionate retribution for violating even a minor oath.
